Directors Biographies

 

Martin York

Martin started his career in Information Technology while serving in the
RAF. He has an incisive view into what makes a technology business work
and how to launch new products. Martin brings an in-depth understanding of the
sales process and how to win deals, which he has successfully applied in
blue chip and start-up companies. His progression to Board Director of Siemens Nixdorf took him through Unisys, Microdata (McDonnell Douglas Information Systems) and Stratus Computer; he subsequently served as UK MD of NeXT Computer, working for Steve Jobs.

As owner manager of a software company, Martin built a substantial systems integration business before selling the firm. He has taken an active role in several start-up technology businesses, including serving as a Non Executive Director.

Since founding G4h Martin has worked with numerous companies from
established multinationals to embryonic concepts. He is particularly adept
at getting to the nub of problems in a short period of time and delivering
creative and pragmatic solutions to sales and marketing related business
problems. He is a natural facilitator and mentor and relates at a personal
level to clients and their needs.
Martin holds a Masters degree in Systems Engineering, and is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the I.E.E. and a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists.

Peter Miller

Peter has over 35 years experience in Information Technology. Peter's early background includes programming, analysis and project management, which has provided a strong foundation for his later career.

For the last 7 years Peter has worked as CEO and principle consultant for G4h. The work he undertakes ranges from developing business plans, building sales and marketing strategies, message / proposition development and positioning, market assessment and testing, market entry, relationship development / lead generation, sales and marketing execution, major account planning, channel development, sales / marketing training and mentoring at board level.

Peter has held senior roles in running all aspects of an IT business. In particular he has in-depth experience of developing and implementing complete marketing / business strategies and launching new products. He has also developed, built and trained successful teams.

He has been a board director of ADP/Quotron (owned by Citibank) and CWB (a financial services and software company) in addition to founding and developing three IT service businesses (G4h, Lexington and PMA), his career has also included roles with ABS Computers, Honeywell and McDonnell Douglas Information Systems.

John Gavin

John is a founder director, owner and Principle at G4h. Over the past 7 years he has lead assignments and built G4h’s relationship with some of the worlds largest IT and IT Services business including Unisys, BT, Intel and Sun Microsystems. With strong associations and knowledge in both the finance and telecommunications sectors he has assisted a portfolio of smaller business develop in these markets.

He has worked with Indian, American, Canadian and Caribbean based clients on their UK and European market entry both on formulating the best strategy with the client and then executing the strategy.

John has a management style that promotes business engagement and results, where he has a track record engineering creative and effective propositions.

Prior to G4h John has served on the board of Dexterus a Bain Capital venture and on various management boards within BT. Prior to his career in management roles John has held senior sales and marketing positions at BT, Digital Equipment and ICL.

He has a number of charitable interests including being a Director of the Great River Race along with being a Liveryman of the Information Technologists and World Traders Companies of the City of London. He is founder of the City Challenge Trophy. He has an Honours Degree in Accounting and Finance and is married with three children.

Colin Spiller

Colin is a business consultant and manager with extensive Sales, Marketing, Client Relationship Management and Market Launch experience in the software marketplace. Colin has led large sales teams for MIDAS, a global leader in banking software solutions and built and managed a 150-strong pan-European team for a well known financial information provider.

 More recently for a G4h client, Optial, Colin has closed a number of deals including an initial six figure deal with the Bank of England, in a very competitive situation, and within a year doubled the value of the original deal. Additionally he closed a key competitive order with Rothschild's for Optial installations in London and Zurich.  Colin is actively involved in a variety of on-going market entry projects including proposition development, test marketing, on-going strategy / execution and lead generation for various G4h clients including a number of Irish companies through Enterprise Ireland.  

Colin has also been heavily involved with a value investor in high growth technology businesses. He is frequently invited to lecture at Oxford Brooks University, and runs training courses on effective selling, sales management and account management skills. He co-authored the chapter on Sales and Marketing for a Euromoney book. Colin holds an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering and completed the Charted Institute of Bankers (now the IFS) Exams in record time to become an ACIB.
